Acorn Electron

The Acorn Electron was an attempt by Acorn to build a cheaper version of the BBC computer for the mass market.

It has some hardware design peculiarities that unfortunately made it rather less capable than its big BBC brother, but it is nevertheless a nice machine.

From reports I've heard, it would appear that it simultaneously

  • Failed in the market due to being late at the party (they managed to miss a crucial Christmas sales deadline).
  • Was briefly the best selling home computer in the UK.
